ALBUM NOTES:

Jeff Coffin, well-traveled saxophonist, composer, and member of the Grammy-winning Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, rejects all labels and categories other than "music-and-musician." In the face of his epic Bloom, even those once-broad tags fall short of defining the close coiling of sound, philosophy, and humanity that is the core of his art.

Since 1997, Coffin has traveled the world with the Flecktones, performing with musicians of all walks. As his insightful yet incindary playing with the Flecktones demonstrates, Coffin possesses the rare ability to fuse the improvisational intensity of moddern jazz with a wide range of influencess. Aided by an all-star cast of jazz, jam, bluegrass, and funk musicians, Jeff Coffin explores an impressive variety of textures and styles, gracing each with his peerless energy, musicianship, and technique. From hard-driving funk jams with Victor Wooten and DJ Logic to sparse, evocative pieces featuring Bela Fleck and an ethereal children’s choir, Coffin presents the most complete picture yet of his eclectic musical vision. Two steps beyond an otherworldy fusion of Ornette Colman, the Meters, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Bloom puts Jeff Coffin at the forefront of a new generation of improvising musicians - a generation for whom boundaries are meaningless and everyone is invited to the party.

Jeff Coffin’s boldness, intensity and verve set him apart from other saxophonists.
