FROM JC:
It was literally just a couple days before we recorded this music that I called Jordan and Matt to ask them if they were interested in being part of it. They said yes.
Making some kind of holiday record had been in the back of my mind since we recorded JINGLE ALL THE WAY with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. I just wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do or who I wanted to do it with. When I decided to finally go for it, Jordan and Matt were the first two musicians I thought of. They are quirky and creative players (in the best sense!), and they think and play in a particularly creative, and uniquely imaginative way.
Musically, and artistically, we decided not to do any overdubs and we all recorded in the same room together. No headphones. We wanted this music to sound and feel unique but still retain a spirit of joy and mystery to the listener. We played to each other and to the room over two evenings, December 10 & 11, 2017. It was a great experience for the three of us and I think you’ll hear that translated in the music.
Jordan, Matt, and I are great friends and are pretty goofy around each other but the music is serious and I believe each tune has our character(s) imbued within it. The title SLEIGH WHAT?! references our love of puns and wordplay and we think it’s pretty funny. We hope you do too.
Happy Holidays to all!!! With love, peace, and gratitude…jc
